These are the three words we have learned: Water, Thank You, and Excuse Me. There are many more on the long list that we planned on learning before the big move. Now we are down to eight days and too much to do. At least this will keep us from getting beat up or dehydrated! We are starting this blog to keep all of the important people updated with tidbits about our big move. We will try to update as often as possible after our arrival in order to keep everyone up to par on the happenings of our life.
As we gear up for our big move, we are excited to get on the road but also sad to say a few "see ya later's". Our time in Ohio was grand (but never long enough in my opinion) and our time in Kentucky has been great so far as well. Today, we got the dogs cleared for their move to Japan and went to see Grandma Laverne. Here are a few answers to questions we get the most about our move:
When do you leave?
We leave October 7th on two separate flights to Chicago. We are on separate flights because they only allow one dog per flight on the small planes. In Chicago we will meet up for our flight to Tokyo. It is 13 hours long and there is a 13 hour time difference between EST and JST. In Tokyo, we will go though customs, get the dogs checked out by a vet (for clearance into the country) and board a flight for Okinawa. With time changes and long flights, we will arrive in Okinawa late on October 8th.
Where will you be living in Japan?
Good question! We don't know! When we arrive on the island, we will be staying at a nice hotel on base. Our dogs will be staying at a kennel on base unless we can get into a hotel that allows dogs. We will go meet with housing early in the following week. If base housing is 90% full or more, we will be told to go off base. If not, they will give us a few options for base housing. Check out this website for the types of places we could live on base: http://www.okinawamfh.com/h01mc0-r.htm
Is your car going to Japan with you?
No, we will have to buy vehicles over there. Luckily, they are pretty cheap (and not too shabby) because military people are constantly coming and going so they sell quickly.
How can we contact you?
We have a magicjack, that provides us with an American phone number that you can call free of charge! We also have Skype, Gmail, and Facebook! Just ask us for our info and we will happily provide it.
Thanks for visiting our FAQ's! Ask more so we have something to blog about!
