I have decided to bring back the blog for just a week or so,
in order to post our Alaska adventures. I am writing this from an honest
perspective of a family of 3 on their first cruise. We are an adventurous
husband and wife with a 3.5 year old who loves the outdoors and learning. We
were lucky enough to take the trip with a Nana, Aunt DD, and Uncle H through
the seas of Alaska. We rode on the Emerald Princess for the first week of
September 2018.
Day 1 – Flying to Seattle.
We woke up anxious to get going.
Well, Sydney did. At 6am EST, she asked if it was time to go to ‘laska. We told
her she had to remain patient and took the last paper ring off of our chain countdown.
After some errands and house chores, we loaded up our 3 giant suitcases, 3
backpacks, and car seat. We did our usual “what did we forget?” quiz to one
another repeatedly. Soon enough, we were loaded on the plane headed for Charlotte.
We made it and got to our connection just in time to board the 6 hour flight to
Seattle. Sydney passed out before we were off the runway, and boy was she
comfy.

We woke her up two hours in fearing that the time change
would wreak havoc on her sleep schedule. She played happily and handled the
long flight better then most adults. The real adventure started when we went to
baggage claim and the sugar from the cookie and juice the flight attendant gave
her kicked in. I think we went up and down the escalators 793 times while we
waited. We watched the same blue bag go around the carousel 3 times before we
realized it was actually ours. Then we navigated the airport with our army’s
worth of luggage and boarded a crowded shuttle to the hotel. When we arrived,
it was about 11pm our time and we hadn’t had dinner – so it was off to the 7-11
for salads and lunchables. At least we kept it healthy! Sydney kept telling us our
countdown was wrong because we weren’t actually in Alaska and we needed to add
a day to the chain. Can’t tell her she was wrong!
